Photo of the Month – March: Arctic Lava

We call this image “Arctic Lava”. It was early May few years back, and the midnight sun was hovering above a 5000 yr old lava flow in western Iceland, less than one hundred miles from the Arctic Circle. We were in the region working in partnership with Iceland Tourism, exploring opportunities for backcountry skiing and adventure tourism, while investigating the development of a future national park on the Hornstrandir Peninsula – a place that could some day become Iceland and Europe’s largest protected wild area.

Camera Info: Canon 5D, 200mm, ISO 160, 1/125, f5.6

New Wedding Portfolio to Share

We’re in the very early planning and research stages of a long-overdue website upgrade. (With some luck, we’ll have a beautiful new website to share in the fall of 2012!) In the meanwhile, we’ve been sifting through the hundreds of thousands of photos we’ve captured in recent years, and building out an image library that we (and our clients) can tap for an increasing array of projects. On the wedding front, we’ve put together a new wedding portfolio to share, which can be viewed as a simple online slideshow. You can access this through the Weddings page on our main website, www.EmberPhoto.com, or through this direct link here.

Thanks and enjoy the photos.

SKI’s 2011 Best Photos of the Year

One of our images – captured while skiing along Iceland’s southern coast and in view of the mighty Vatnajokull glacier – was recently selected as one of SKI Magazine’s 2011 Best Photos of the Year. You can take a peek at the image online here and below. What a sweet day of skiing that was above the wild north Atlantic!

If you are interested in a print of the image(s) within this post or within our growing selection of fine-art photography, please contact us or take a look at our Print Gallery or Print Pricing pages, for more ideas and info. Thanks!

*Free* Summer Photo Workshop at Stowe – Sat 8/27

Later this month, we’ll be leading a half-day photo workshop on Vermont’s Mt. Mansfield, as part of a series of summer events offered by Spruce Peak at Stowe. The event is free of charge, and spaces are limited. Please contact us ASAP to register or for more info.

Summer Photography Workshop w/ Spruce Peak at Stowe
Saturday, Aug 27, 2011
8a – 12pm @ Mt. Mansfield Toll Road Conference Center
**Registration required**

INFO:
Hosted by Spruce Peak at Stowe, and led by the two of us, this workshop is designed to make you a better outdoor, landscape and action photographer. We will spend the morning at two different locations along the Mt. Mansfield Toll Road, while seeking out a good variety of subjects and locations. We’ll cover the basics of exposure, the creative use of light, as well as action, landscape, portrait and close-up/macro techniques…and more.

Workshop Schedule:
8am – Meet and greet at Toll House Conference Center. Indoor slide show and overview of camera basics, composition techniques, exposure and more.

9am – Journey (by vehicle) up Toll Road to a scenic location on Mt. Mansfield, where we’ll spend a couple of hours photographing the varied landscape of the mountain (i.e. views, flowers, clouds, details) and practicing a few tricks of the trade.

11am – Return to Toll House Conference Center for continued discussion. We’ll review some of the photos we captured on the mountain, as well as others from our archives that relate to the discussion. Final Q&A.

We look forward to seeing some of you there!

Thanks
