Baby Snowflake

We’ve got a little girl on the way. We’ve been calling her Little Snowflake. And while she seems to be very much enjoying her time in the womb – including the nearly sixty ski days she’s logged, albeit upside down and backwards! – we expect to meet her very soon during the month of February. So stay tuned for more updates!

Foliage Skiing on ESPN

While there may not be much more than fallen leaves covering the valleys, colder temps have enabled snow to fall in our local mountains several times already this month. With good color still clinging to the hardwood trees, it’s a real treat to out in the snow this time of year. Foliage skiing, as we tend to call it around here, has become an annual pastime…seasonally appropriate adventure at its best. We recently published a short writeup and photo essay on the subject on ESPN.com. You can check it out HERE.
Happy fall!

Winter Wedding, Full Moon at the Round Barn Farm

We photograph one or two weddings each year at the historic Round Barn Farm Inn in Waitsfield, Vermont. It’s a beautiful and top-notch venue, and it’s always a pleasure for us to work with the Round Barn’s friendly and hard-working staff. Sarah and John’s recent wedding coincided with a rising full moon, which by 8pm cast a subtle blue hue on the barn and the world surrounding it. Sarah and John, along with some of their friends and family, wandered out to enjoy the moonlight and stars. It wasn’t long though before they were chased by the chilly winter air back to the warm and cozy environment inside the barn. – Brian

Photo of the Month – March: Arctic Lava

We call this image “Arctic Lava”. It was early May few years back, and the midnight sun was hovering above a 5000 yr old lava flow in western Iceland, less than one hundred miles from the Arctic Circle. We were in the region working in partnership with Iceland Tourism, exploring opportunities for backcountry skiing and adventure tourism, while investigating the development of a future national park on the Hornstrandir Peninsula – a place that could some day become Iceland and Europe’s largest protected wild area.

Camera Info: Canon 5D, 200mm, ISO 160, 1/125, f5.6

New Wedding Portfolio to Share

We’re in the very early planning and research stages of a long-overdue website upgrade. (With some luck, we’ll have a beautiful new website to share in the fall of 2012!) In the meanwhile, we’ve been sifting through the hundreds of thousands of photos we’ve captured in recent years, and building out an image library that we (and our clients) can tap for an increasing array of projects. On the wedding front, we’ve put together a new wedding portfolio to share, which can be viewed as a simple online slideshow. You can access this through the Weddings page on our main website, www.EmberPhoto.com, or through this direct link here.

Thanks and enjoy the photos.
