Baby Snowflake

We’ve got a little girl on the way. We’ve been calling her Little Snowflake. And while she seems to be very much enjoying her time in the womb – including the nearly sixty ski days she’s logged, albeit upside down and backwards! – we expect to meet her very soon during the month of February. So stay tuned for more updates!

Sunrise in the Greens

Camel’s Hump and Mad River Glen’s historic Single Chair stand tall above an undercast sky during recent sunrise over Vermont’s Green Mountains. The photo was captured a few days before Christmas, at the beginning of a three week cycle of very snowy and wintry weather.

Foliage Skiing on ESPN

While there may not be much more than fallen leaves covering the valleys, colder temps have enabled snow to fall in our local mountains several times already this month. With good color still clinging to the hardwood trees, it’s a real treat to out in the snow this time of year. Foliage skiing, as we tend to call it around here, has become an annual pastime…seasonally appropriate adventure at its best. We recently published a short writeup and photo essay on the subject on ESPN.com. You can check it out HERE.
Happy fall!

Our Friend the Conch

We bumped into our friend the conch again while down in Costa Rica’s Rio Ario/Bongo watershed earlier this July. He was at first a bit timid, but then he became curious. And when he sensed that we weren’t going to harvest and eat the increasingly over-hunted and endangered creature, he even smiled for us. While attempting to grab a few photos of the fascinating little gastropod, he slid back into his protective shell – perhaps for an afternoon nap. Fortunately, he cooperated with the camera during a previous encounter. Check him out. He’s no doubt one of the coolest little animals we’ve ever come across.
