8 – 11am @ Spruce Peak at Stowe – Golf Clubhouse
Cost: FREE
Registration Required: Please email us at info@emberphoto.com or call 802-496-5434.

Overview:
Hosted by Dave Hatoff with Spruce Peak at Stowe, and led by Vermont photographers Brian Mohr and Emily Johnson (www.EmberPhoto.com), this workshop is designed to help develop your interest in winter outdoor photography. We’ll cover the basics of winter exposures, the creative use of light, as well as action, landscape, portrait and close-up/macro techniques.

Meeting Place:
Please be prompt and meet at 8am at the Spruce Peak Golf Clubhouse. (Turn into the first/main entrance for Spruce Peak at Stowe – approximately 6 miles up along Rt. 108 from downtown Stowe. The Golf Clubhouse is on the right as you enter the area.) If necessary, keep our cell #s handy: Dave (802)- 498-4835 / Brian (802)-989-0570.

Important Reminders:
Clothing: We want to be warm and comfortable, so please be extra-prepared for the cold and wind (even if it looks like a warm, calm day) by dressing warmer than you normally would and wearing a hooded winter jacket, some warm gloves (w/ glove liners, so you take your hands out of your gloves), a neck warmer and at least one pair of basic hand warmers (these will also help to keep your extra batteries warm). Please wear sturdy snow boots (and gaiters, if necessary) that enable some walking in the snow.

Camera: Have your camera ready to go with fresh batteries (and at least one back-up battery, if available), at least one good lens wipe/cloth, and a simple lens-brush or lens-pen (for wiping dust from lens). Bring along and wear a camera chest pack or other carrying case/pack if you have one. If you have multiple lenses, please bring at least one wide angle lens, or a lens with some good range (e.g. 18-200mm), for versatility. Tri-pods are optional, but feel free to bring one along if it works well and you have practiced with it.

MISC: Please bring a small backpack for carrying your extra items, some extra layers, etc.. as well as anything you like to have with you when out photographing for a few hours. (e.g. water, snack, etc..)

Workshop Schedule:
8am – Meet and greet at Golf Clubhouse. Indoor slideshow and overview of camera basics, composition techniques, exposure and more.

8:45am –Outdoor Session – We’ll spend some time photographing the varied landscape and views accessible from the golf course (i.e. views, woods, snow/ice forms, water) and practicing some of the tricks of the trade. You’ll get plenty of one-on-one time with Brian and Emily to dial in your camera skills.

10:30am – Return to Toll House Conference Center for continued discussion. We’ll review some of the photos we captured outside, as well as others from Brian and Emily’s archives that relate to the discussion. Final Q&A.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

One-Day Winter Photography Workshop: Support the Catamount Trail – Sat, Jan. 15

With more interest in a simple, one-day workshop than our original plan for a weekend-long workshop this January…we have decided to cancel plans for the weekend workshop (schedule for Jan 14-15 at Trapps), and offer a one-day workshop at a private home in Underhill, VT on Saturday, January 15 from 9a – 4 pm. Presented by us (Brian and Emily) and organized by the Catamount Trail Association (CTA), the event will also help to raise some important funds supporting the CTA’s ongoing work maintaining and securing long term access to Vermont’s Catamount Ski Trail – our nation’s longest backcountry ski trail.

For more information about our upcoming 1-day outdoor winter photography workshop, please go to this LINK, or feel free to contact us anytime by phone or email, too, with your questions. We hope you can join us. Thanks for spreading the word, too!

And, Happy Holidays to everyone!
