Recent Published Work to Share

This past fall, Woman’s Adventure featured an image we captured while packing up the ski-bikes during our recent month long, self-supported and bicycle-powered skiing adventure through Arctic Norway.

We published a photo-driven feature in N Magazine this past fall, celebrating the fall tropical storm and surfing season along the New England coast. Here’s a glimpse at the center spread, below, and the full feature, HERE.

An image we captured while skiing in the High Peaks of New York’s Adirondacks last season ran as a spread in Powder magazine alongside a story about skiing the region after the passage of Tropical Storm Irene in August of 2011. Irene produced dozens of new landslides, many of which are skiable, in the Dacks.

Black Diamond Equipment Ltd., makers of top-notch equipment for backcountry skiing and climbing, featured this image on their website this past fall. We captured the image while approaching a peak above our seashore camp well after midnight during early May in Arctic Norway.

Vermont’s BTV Magazine, which covers the Burlington, VT scene, chose our image for the cover of their winter edition. The image feature’s Emily’s sister, Leah, enjoying some freshly falling snow here at home in the Green Mountains.

NEW Blog Feature: Photo of the Month – Pedal Powered Skiing

It was just a year ago this month that we were deep into a month-long, pedal-powered backcountry skiing adventure through Arctic Norway. (You can check out one of our published stories about the trip here, or a few posts on our skiing website, here.)

We captured this image around 10:30pm in the middle of May, during what was supposed to be a rest day – just as the sun was beginning its 3-4 hour journey across the horizon. At 9pm, just before crawling into our tents for the “night”, a change in the weather inspired us to pack up camp and pedal out to the end of a mountainous peninsula where we would have unobstructed views of the midnight sun to the north for several days. By 12:30am, we were high above our seashore camp, enjoying our first of several runs under the beautiful light of the midnight sun. It wasn’t until shortly after 5am that we skied back to camp. So much for a rest day!

Thanks again to friends David Alpin Skirnisson & family, Per Arneberg, Jimmy Halvardsson, Kaj Sønnichsen, Forrest Twombly, Tom Hite, Alf & Gunnar, Asbjorn, Ulf, Tore & Anna and many others who helped to make this adventure such a unforgettable experience.

We’re making preparations for a month-long adventure, starting April 22, through Norway’s Arctic Alps. We’ll be working on assignment for WEND Magazine, Adventure Cyclist and others, and partnering with a long list of folks in the skiing and cycling worlds to document and share this adventure with others – through the outdoor media and our own Wild People, Wild Places Slideshow Series. Working with WEND Magazine

As we mentioned earlier this winter, we published a feature story in WEND Magazine about our skiing adventures in the remote Schweizerland Alps along the coast of East Greenland. We’ve had our eye on WEND for a few years now, and it’s exciting to be working more closely with a magazine that is dedicated to adventure for adventure’s sake, the outdoor lifestyle and the issues we care about most.

Starting this week, WEND will be featuring our skiing adventures on their community-oriented “iWEND” website. You can check out our first contribution HERE.

And later this month, on assignment for WEND (with other assignments for Adventure Cyclist and others), we will be setting off on a month-long, bike-supported skiing adventure through Norway’s Arctic Alps. We’ll be way, way, way up north, above the Arctic Circle, climbing and skiing wild, snow-covered mountains that tower 1500m over the sea, and with some luck, catching and eating fjord cod and fresh mackerel for dinner (or breakfast!).
