Endangered Patagonia - Skiing Chile's Rio Baker Valley

Over the last ten years, often on assignment and in partnership with organizations and outdoor businesses committed to wildlands conservation, we've been exploring the wild mountains of Chile's Rio Baker Valley. The heart and soul of Chilean Patagonia and the focus of an inspiring conservation effort aimed at creating a new Patagonia National Park, the Rio Baker Valley is also threatened by a shortsighted, profit-driven scheme to "develop" the glacier-born and free-flowing Rio Baker for poorly planned, hydro-electric production. In addition to several monster dams, the Italian-owned ENEL Corporation is hoping to install a 1200 mile transmission line through five Chilean National Parks and two wilderness reserves. "The damming of the Baker," says a local rancher, "would be a terrible tragedy."

PLEASE check out the links below to get informed...and get involved in protecting one of our planet's greatest remaining wild places.

PLEASE TAKE ACTION =>
Write Chile's president and support the work of the campaign, SIN REPRESAS, ("Without Dams") which is focused on preventing the damming of one of the world's and Patagonia's last great and wild watersheds.
